Ted Kilner was for many years Festival Director. Sadly, Edward ‘Ted’ Kilner passed away this week, November 2020. Ted was a very well known member of Wetherby’s community and active in many local groups and organisations including Wetherby Musical Theatre Group, really Youthful Theatre Group, Wetherby Arts Festival and as leader of the Crypt Youth Group. His career in the Forensic Science Service brought him to the town and he was also instrumental in the setting up of the Engine Shed. Ted moved from the town a few years ago to be closer to his family in Huddersfield and in July celebrated his 80th birthday. Recently his health had been deteriorating and was admitted to hospital for an operation from which he sadly didn’t recover. Ted touched many lives and contributed a huge amount to Wetherby during his time as a very active member of our community. He will be greatly missed.(Ted is pictured on the left). (with thanks to Andrew Rogers for this report).

Read more about Ted’s involvement in the early days of the Festival (started 1977) on our Past Festivals pages.
